12 Sayings by Master Hongyi, Who Helped Countless People: 1. Many things in life are predetermined. What you can keep doesn't require effort; what you can't keep, don't bother trying. At a certain age, one should learn to be calm and non-competitive, accepting everything as it comes. Cherish what comes, let go of what goes. If you are powerless, then go with the flow; if your heart has no expectations, then be content with whatever comes. What you gain or lose is not as good as peace of mind; what you desire or dislike is not as good as willingness. 2. What you care about will torment you. Everything originates from the heart; take things lightly and you'll feel light. Anger is because you are not generous enough; jealousy is because you are not good enough; sadness is because you are not strong enough; depression is because you are not open-minded enough; anxiety is because you are not composed enough. A peaceful mind can heal three thousand ailments; a calm mind can understand all things. The best release in the world is to release yourself. The suffering of life lies in attachment; the difficulty of life lies in letting go. 3. Fate comes without your consent and goes without asking your opinion. When encountering a fleeting relationship, don't dwell on it. Thinking about it only leads to unnecessary worry, and dwelling on it is just creating trouble for yourself. Broaden your mind, take things lightly, let relationships take their course, and look to the future. Cherish what you have while you have it, and see it off with equanimity when it leaves. 4. Those who deceive you will suffer for you; those who bully you will endure hardship for you; those who suppress you will suffer misfortune for you; those who don't repay your debts will shield you from disaster. Cause and effect are cyclical; no one escapes the judgment of Heaven. Just be kind, don't resent others, for resentment will hurt you. Leave everything to time. Be kind to others, and though blessings may not yet arrive, misfortune will have already departed; be evil to others, and though misfortune may not yet arrive, blessings will have already departed. 5. Don't think of those on shore when you board the boat, and don't mention those on the boat when you disembark. There's no need to know the current situation of old friends, and no need to inquire about the past of new friends. We meet in this life because of debts owed in the past. Meeting is because a debt needs to be repaid; leaving is because the debt has been paid off. "The arising and ceasing of conditions are all in one's own hands." The depth of affection is beyond human control. Everyone has their own ferry crossing, their own boat returning home. Life is a journey, and everyone has their own destiny. 6. In this life, I have awakened. I have let go of all the "affairs" in this world, and will not form any further ties with anyone. What is owed to me, I will not demand, nor need to repay; what I owe, I will repay when the time is right. A debt from a past life, unseen in this life; meeting in this life, there is bound to be a debt. May in the next life, we meet, without debt, without longing. 7. When a place makes you suffer, and you always want to leave but cannot, it is because you have not yet repaid the karmic debts in that place, and the karmic ties have not yet ended. Every cause has an effect; the cycle of cause and effect is predetermined. Sow a cause, reap a result; each has their own retribution. Some roads you must walk alone; this is not loneliness, but a choice. Some suffering you must bear alone; this is not hardship, but responsibility. 8. Those who are blessed will inevitably experience the pain of "love tribulations." Most people lose half their lives after experiencing a love tribulation, but it is precisely this tribulation that allows you to achieve redemption and rebirth, teaches you to let go, understand human nature, makes you stronger, teaches you to treat yourself well, forgive yourself, stop self-destructive, and makes you a better version of yourself.
