驚蟄~蟄而起之 cover
Today is the Awakening of Insects, the beginning of the month of Mao (卯). The yang energy stirs, and all things emerge from the Zhen (震) trigram, marking the pivotal moment of the birth and growth of heaven and earth. According to the *Taiping Yulan* compiled in the *Siku Quanshu* (Complete Library of the Four Treasuries), "On the day of the Awakening of Insects, peach blossoms begin to bloom. Five days later, orioles sing." Furthermore, according to the *Da Dai Li Ji* (Record of Rites of the Elder Dai), "The first month is the beginning of hibernation, meaning the awakening of hibernating creatures. All things emerge from the Zhen trigram, which represents thunder, hence the name Awakening of Insects." According to the twelve hexagrams of the *I Ching*, the Awakening of Insects corresponds to the Da Zhuang hexagram (Thunder over Heaven), with the lower trigram Qian (乾) and the upper trigram Zhen (震), signifying the flourishing of four yang lines. Qian represents heaven, and Zhen represents thunder; the image is described as "thunder in the sky," precisely the image of spring thunder stirring, hibernating insects startled, and plants sprouting. At this time, the handle of the Big Dipper points to Jia (甲), yin and yang interact to form thunder, yang energy surges, and all things flourish. Therefore, many merchants choose to open their businesses or travel after the Awakening of Insects, aligning with the celestial mechanism of growth, all stemming from this.
